SkyBells are a traditional spirit folk duo that blend profound and distinctly poetic lyricism with timeless southern folk sounds, drawing out the spirit of their Alabama heritage. Their “infectiously enjoyable” vocal harmonies and artful twang emanate an energizing ambience that leave listeners feeling invigorated. SkyBells invite listeners to explore the essence of their music through a spiritual lens to help illuminate the virtues of life and inspire reflection and growth. “Mother Maybelle and the Carter Family would like this one.”
Hailing from Opelika, AL, SkyBells are composed of seasoned songwriters Marie Nicole Robertson and Daniel Lee Webster who came together in March 2019, writing songs with spiritual themes inspired by their time reflecting on the vitality of Alabama’s captivating sunsets. From the beginning, SkyBells have maintained an earnest enthusiasm for their songwriting, recording their first live EP Capital G in June 2019 with Grammy award-winning producer Larry Mitchell and releasing their Hike Up the Valley EP in September 2019 with TRS Studio in Opelika, AL. They are currently working on their debut album Rest My Weary I’s with The Sound Wall Recording Studio in Opelika, AL set to be released July 9, 2020.
As performers, SkyBells have had a thriving ascent through their recent beginnings as a duo and have entertained audiences on a variety of local and regional stages. Their earliest performances were given in spring 2019 as enthusiastic hosts of numerous songwriter showcases in the Opelika-Auburn area. In May, the duo performed at the first annual Opelika Songwriters Festival 2019, joining the stage in a round with Chuck McDowell and Noah Zacharin. Just months later, they played to a full house at the prestigious Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art’s A Little Lunch Music series in Auburn, AL, receiving an esteemed highlight in the Opelika-Auburn Newspaper. With plenty of momentum, the duo will not be putting on the breaks anytime soon and are gearing up for a busy summer on the road with their Rest My Weary I’s Debut Album Release Tour in summer 2020.
With a passion for sharing, SkyBells have dedicated many of their performances to their Lifting the Senior Spirit Mission, bringing music to seniors who are unable to experience live music outside of their communities. In September 2019, they left on their first Lifting the Senior Spirit Tour, traveling across the state of Florida and performing for 15 senior assisted living homes in 10 days. SkyBells went out again in February 2020, spending a week sharing music with similar communities in Mobile, AL. They continue to visit local and regional communities, spreading joy to residents through music.
